A Website Photo Checklist for Service Businesses
Photos help customers see the type of work a business performs and what a service visit may involve. A smaller set of well-chosen images is often more effective than a large, unorganized upload.
Plan photos around customer questions
Consider images that show the team or equipment, completed work, the steps involved, and relevant before-and-after context. Choose photos that are sharp, correctly oriented, and easy to understand without a long explanation.
Ask permission before using customer property, faces, logos, or other identifiable details. Remove license plates, paperwork, home numbers, or other information that should not be made public.
- Select images that explain a real service.
- Get permission before publishing.
- Remove incidental private information.
Prepare files for the web
Crop images for their intended layout, resize them to a practical resolution, and compress them before upload. Use a useful filename for internal organization and write alt text only when it conveys meaningful visual information.
Review photos periodically to remove outdated images and confirm that captions remain accurate. Do not describe a photo as a company's work unless it is verified as such.
- Resize and compress before publishing.
- Keep captions factual.
- Review images when services or branding change.
Common questions
Can stock photos replace project photos?
Stock images can illustrate a general concept, but they should not be presented as the company's own work. Real, authorized project photos provide more specific context.
